A ceremony was held at Harbourmaster’s House, Dysart, Headquarters of Fife Coast and Countryside Trust to celebrate Linda McTavish, of Saline completing the Fife Coastal Path.

The successful completion of 117 mile route from Kincardine to Newburgh was an especially significant achievement for Linda, who had suffered for many years from the debilitating illness ME – at one point being told by her doctor that she might never walk again. After suffering a heart attack and having stents put in place, life began anew for Linda.

After picking up a Fife Coastal Path leaflet in a tourist office, Linda felt inspired to find out more about the route. She went on to complete her first section of the Fife Coastal Path was completed in September 2015, as her love of walking grew, so did as her obsession with the Fife Coastal Path until she completed the full 117 miles on 26th March 2017.

Not content with just walking the route Linda made it her goal to access the path using public transport where possible, although challenging she managed to complete 90% of the path, by utilising her bus pass. Linda commented, ‘I had great days out, which cost me very little, only wearing waterproofs on one occasion due to wind. The coastline of Fife is stunning, beautiful beaches, historic sites, something new to enjoy around every corner and  the opportunity to meet friendly people with a shared passion for walking.’
There has long been an association with the health benefits of visiting the coast, for increased wellbeing and convalescence. Linda’s experiences certainly mirrors this with a feeling of increased wellbeing, enjoying the sound of the waves, changing scenery, close proximity to nature and breathing fresh sea air.
In recognition of her achievement Linda received the first of the relaunched Fife Coastal Path Completion Certificates, from Fife Coast and Countryside Trust CEO, Chris Broome.

Linda would like to thank the following people who accompanied her on her walk. Elizabeth who walked the section between Kincardine and Leven. Sandy and Anne who helped her complete the more challenging sections and Walter who accompanied her on the Tentsmuir section. Linda also completed some sections of the Fife Coastal Path, with Saline Walking Group.
