Fife's Beaches

Thursday, January 8, 2009
Five Fife beaches have been granted the prestigious International European Blue Flag award.

The flags were handed over yesterday (Tuesday 6 July) to Provost of Fife Councillor Frances Melville at a ceremony at Burntisland Beach, which has consistently won a seaside award for ten years in a row.

Burntisland is joined by Aberdour Silver Sands, Elie Ruby Bay (Woodhaven), Leven and St Andrews West Sands, meaning Fife has five out of the seven Blue Flags given to Scottish beaches this summer. The Blue Flags will be proudly flying until 31 August. This means people using the beaches can be assured of the highest possible water quality and excellent facilities including the presence of lifeguards, first aid, access for the disabled and regular cleaning.
